Veneers are thin, custom made porcelain shells that fit onto the front
surfaces of the teeth. The concept is similar to false fingernails. To make
porcelain veneers, the dentist first takes an impression of your teeth.
Using this impression, the porcelain veneers are fabricated to achieve the
desired cosmetic effect. The thin, lightweight veneers are then bonded to
the front surfaces of the teeth with a special dental adhesive. Porcelain
veneers can close gaps between teeth, lengthen teeth, improve the contour
of the teeth and whiten teeth. In some adults, porcelain veneers can substitute
for orthodontic treatment.
